New FTC ‘green guide for marketers’

(First paragraph of story) “Marketers are preparing to revise their “green” messaging now that the FTC has issued updates to its “Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims” for the first time since 1998. During the dozen-year gap, practices changed dramatically: Back then eco-claims were somewhat limited — now, every company under the sun is making broad and unsubstantiated claims about their green missions. And this may continue to an extent: Much to the chagrin of some green activists, the proposal doesn’t touch upon claims involving reduced or greener packaging, and also don’t attempt to define or suggest limitations on the terms “sustainable” or “sustainability.”  Click here to read more.
